What We Teach

Instruction for Life

We teach traditional martial arts using modern teaching methods.

Martial arts training is discipline for the mind as well as the body. We use developmentally-appropriate techniques to make sure all students learn the physical skills, the confidence, and the mental balance to excel both on the mat and in life.

Confident child

Little Dragons (ages 4–6)

What can we teach a 4 year old about martial arts? Plenty! We've discovered that our four to six year olds can often learn the basics of karate faster than older children—the trick is to create a safe environment and to break things down to their essentials. We also run the program at the child's pace—Little Dragons meet once a week, and the classes last 30 minutes.

Because they're learning real skills, Little Dragons typically skip the beginner belt level when they chose to advance to the American Karate program.

As well as learning genuine martial arts skills, you'll see your child improve their coordination, balance, and overall control of their bodies. You'll also see an improvement in focus, listening skills, and self control.

Confident child

American Karate for children (ages 7 & up)

Children of any athletic ability will benefit from martial arts training. Classes are active, open, and structured to motivate kids to make positive choices. Progressing through the belt ranks helps children learn to set goals and take pride in working hard to achieve them. At Karate for Life we don’t just talk about character development, we teach it! We emphasize honesty, integrity, and respectful behavior—in order to advance our students are required to track their community service and character-development activities. They must also show a positive attitude and demonstrate mastery of the skills needed for each belt level.

We believe martial arts training is “fitness with purpose.” Our classes will help you increase flexibility, improve muscle tone, strength, and balance. You’ll gain confidence from knowing you possess the skills necessary to protect yourself or your family. The physical training is a great stress reliever and the atmosphere is family oriented. In fact, many parents train alongside their children.

Black belts

Black Belt Program

For many schools, the black belt is the end of the road. For us, it's the beginning of a journey. If you have your black belt, come join our Black Belt Program, where you'll learn advanced techniques in both karate and in other disciplines. You'll also study bunkai, the analysis of what we do, and kaizen, or continuous improvement. You'll work towards your next belt ranl with a group of dedicated and supportive martial arts enthusiasts who are there for the joy of learning.
